Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Derby Stag by The Master J.H. (fl.1647-1666). A portrait of a stag set in a rocky landscape standing on grass and rocks; oil on canvas. Full-length, facing right with red coat, light underbelly, antlers and dark hooves. A tree stands to the left with a red squirrel on one of its branches.
Provenance
Original to the house. Mentioned in 1879 inventory as hanging in 'Study Passage and Staircase', "full size painting of 'stag' (said to be the stag killed by Lord Derby near the Derby Oak". (taken from inventory card)
