Oil painting on canvas, Richard Legh (1634-1687) by Master J.H. (fl.1647-1666), inscribed, upper left: RICHARD LEGH / ESQUIRE / OF LYME,1662. A three-quarter length portrait of a young man, turned to right, facing and gazing at the spectator, with dark curly shoulder-length hair wearing a steel breastplate over tan/buff leather jerkin with long slashed sleeves revealing white shirt and neckcloth, his waist tied with a crimson sash, tied at the back with a loop. His right hand holding a cane, his left resting on a helmet with a raised vizor on a table. He stands before a rock formation in a landscape with a distant views of sky and trees to the right.
