Oil painting on canvas, Shipping off the Coast after Abraham Storck (Amsterdam 1644 – Amsterdam 1708),1660. Ships off Dover, thought to represent the return from exile of Charles II (25 May 1660) abroad the 'Royal Charles'. In the centre, a large flagship, the 'Royal Charles', armed with cannon, flying a red ensign union flag, royal arms, and carved gilt royal arms on the sterm. Escorted by three small gunships and various vessels in the background, on the left is Dover,and on the right the cliffs and Dover Castle. Heavy shadow in foreground, green choppy sea. Cloudy sky with bright blue above
