Summary
Oil painting on panel, Count Johan von Merode, Grand Bailiff of Kennerland ( ? - 1666), previously thought to be Landgrave William V, Landgrave of Hesse-Cassel (1602-1637) by Michel Miereveldt (1567-1641). A head-and-shoulders portrait to right, wearing armour, lace collar and pink sash embroidered with gold and silver over his shoulder.
Provenance
Ashdown House was given to the National Trust by Cornelia Martin, Countess of Craven (d. 1961); Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust for display at Ashdown House, 1968.
