Summary
Oil painting on canvas, The Reverend Robert Ferryman (1753-1837) by Thomas Phillips, RA (Dudley 1770 – London 1845), signed: T.P. 1797. A three-quarter-length portrait, of a man seated on a rock, his head raised and turned three-quarters to the left. In his left hand is a gun and he is wearing a black coat and vest with white breeches. There is a gull in the top left corner. The sitter was Rector of Iping, West Sussex, on the River Rother, near Midhurst between 1796-1837.
