Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Harriet Moritz, Lady Polwarth (after 1767 - d.1853) by Thomas Phillips, RA (Dudley 1770 – London 1845), signed: T.P. 1802. A half-length portrait of a woman, facing, her head turned slightly to the right, gazing slightly to the right, dark hair, white band and pearls, wearing a black dress against a red drape background. The sitter was the daughter of Hans Moritz, Count Bruhl (1736-1809) and Alicia Maria Carpenter, widowed Countess of Egremont (1729-1794). Count Bruhl was her second husband. In 1795 Harriet Moritz married Hugh Scott, 11th Baron of Harden, who was granted the Barony of Polwarth in 1835.
