Summary
Walnut longcase clock by William Geary. 8-day longcase clock signed ‘Wm Geary London’ on the dial. The arched brass dial having silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals, Arabic five-minute markers, silvered seconds subdial with Arabic five-second markers, matted centre with engraved signature, silvered strike/silent subdial in the arch, calendar aperture with silvered calendar ring, wheat-ear engraving to the border, four gilt cherub-and-crown spandrels around the chapter, two gilt dragon spandrels in the arch, black painted hour, minute & seconds hands, and a blued steel setting hand to the strike/silent subdial. The movement has anchor recoil escapement, and five knopped & finned pillars. The entire strike train other than the barrel has been lost, along with all strike-related under-dial work. The bell and bellstand remain, though the bell is a later replacement. The walnut case having a hood with columns and later finials, waist door with ‘bull’s eye’ and herringbone inlay.
