Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Thomas Sebright with the Fitzwilliam Hounds by Richard Barrett Davis (Watford 1782 – Kensington 1854), signed and dated: R.B. Davis 1839. A full-length portrait on horseback of Thomas Sebright, to left, riding, with the pack of hounds following him through the door in a wall leading to the kennels; the wall is bounded on the right by a small round tower with a pointed thatched roof, and the chimney stacks and castellated tower of a building are visible in the centre above some bushes which screen the wall.
Provenance
Possibly inherited by the 10th Lord Suffield with the Manor House, Swaffham, from Richard Hammond, son of Anthony Hamond of Westacre; sold by Lord Suffield to Leggatt Brothers, 1936; acquired from Leggatt Bros. by Walter Samuel, 2nd Viscount Bearsted (1882-1948); given by Lord Bearsted to the National Trust with Upton House and much of its other contents, 1948.
