One of a pair of walnut open armchairs, Italian, circa 1880, profusely and boldly carved, each with applique red velvet back and seat, the arms carved with overlapping rosettes, headed with grotesque masks and terminating in a scroll, the legs formed of C-scrolls carved with upward-looking faces and with a central mask just below the seat, unusually carved right round onto the back surfaces of the chair.
