Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lady Elizabeth Cecil, Lady Aislabie (1706-1733) by Jonathan Richardson the elder (London 1665 – London 1745), circa 1725/33. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young woman, seated, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing a blue wrap-over dress, over a white chemise and a mauve mantle laid over her knees. A landscape background with a lamb. Inscribed: Daughter of John Cecil, 6th Earl of Exeter (1674-1721) and Elizabeth Brownlow (1681-1723); married William Aislabie (1700-1781) MP for Ripon of Studley Royal. He also purchased the remains of Fountains Abbey for £18,000 in 1768, adding it to the Aislabie estates.
