Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Anne Margaret Long, Lady Mason (c.1637-1711) by Jacob Huysmans (Antwerp c.1630 – London 1696). Inscribed bottom right: LADY MASON/WIFE OF SIR RD. MASON/PAINTED BY LELY. A three-quarter length portrait of a young woman, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, dark brown hair with tight curls facing her brow and a ringlet falling on her right shoulder, her left hand at her waist and her right hand holding up a fold of her red silk dress, her blue mantle is wrapped around her left arm and is seen trailing to the left. Anne Margaret Long was born around 1637 at Draycot, Oxfordshire, England. She was the daughter of Sir James Long, 2nd Bt and Dorothy Leach. She married Sir Richard Mason. She had two daughters: Dorothy Mason, Lady Brownlow (1664-1700), and Anna Mason, Countess of Macclesfield (c. 1665-1753).
