Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Robert Shuttleworth (1784-1818) by Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823), 1816/18. A half-length portrait, in black coat and white stock. Gilt frame.
Provenance
Sir John Marjoribanks,1st Bt (1763–1833) of Lees, Coldstream, Co. Berwick, father of Janet (d.1855), widow of the sitter; thence by descent to Monica Marjoribanks, only daughter of George Marjoribanks (d.1931), grandson of Edward Marjoribanks, younger brother of Sir John and a partner in Coutts Bank; thence to Michael Worthington, a close friend of Monica Marjoribanks, who acquired the portrait from her estate by inheritance or purchase and bequeathed it to the National Trust in 2014 for display at Gawthorpe Hall.
