Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Possibly Jane Carter, Mrs Richard Vernon (d. 1697), manner of Sir Peter Lely (Soest 1618 – London 1680), circa 1675/80. A painted oval half-length portrait of a young lady, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator. She has brown hair, dressed in ringlets on either side of her face, wearing a red dress and a white shawl whose strings are fastened at the front of her dress. She wears a single strang pearl necklet. Inscribed No 12.
