Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Master Watkin Wynn, later Sir Watkin Williams-Wynne 5th Bt (1772-1840), as the Infant Saint John the Baptist, after Sir Joshua Reynolds (Plympton 1723 - London 1792), early 19th century. A full-length portrait of a young child seated on the ground on the left, with a wooded landscape and a distant view of sky behind him. The child is turned to the right, gazing at a lamb lying down on the right and is dressed in a pink robe, and is holding a cup in his right hand under a trickling stream of water. The original (now in a Private Collection) of around 1776 was exhibited at the Royal Academy (243) in that year entitled 'St John' and a payment of 50 gns was recorded in the Ledger in February 1778.
