Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Thomas Ferrers (1713-1760) by British (English) School, circa 1735/45. A painted oval, half-length portrait of the son of Edward Ferrers (1678-1720) and Teresa Gibson (d.1734) the daughter of Sir Isaac Gibson of Worcester. He married Margaret Kempson in 1737, the daughter of John Kempson of Henley-in-Arden. He is against a plain brown background turned slightly towards the right and looking out at the spectator. He wears a white powdered wig, the powder visible upon the shoulders of a brown coat which is open to reveal a blue waistcoat with edges of gold brocade and a white shirt with a lace cravat. The sitter's left hand rests inside his waistcoat and he carries a hat trimmed with yellow satin under his left arm. A companion to NT 343149, a portrait of Margaret Kempson, the sitter's wife.
