A set of six oak chairs, Wales, circa 1720-1740. Each with slatted back and shaped toprail with ogee lower cross-rail, flanked by uprights with round-top finials, the solid seat raised on block and turned legs joined by multiple stretchers.
In R. Bebb 'Welsh Furniture 1250-1950', 2007, Vol Two, p. 40-42, a number of chairs with similar characteristics are illustrated. These include the rounded top back uprights, the ogee-shaped crossrail and a similar front leg profile.
