Summary
A carved walnut high-back open armchair, English, circa 1870. With crimson cut velvet padded back within a scroll carved frame and flanked by spiral-twist posts headed with finials and with a cresting of a crown flanked by scrolls, above part-padded arms with rosette-scroll terminals, the velvet seat raised on bulbous turned legs joined by spiral side stretchers and a front crown and scroll stretcher, standing on small turned feet, ivorine label 'FERRERS'. The top covers are of crimson figured velvet with cut and looped pile, and are of floral/foliate design. The velvet is of wool and silk yarns (pile), and may also incorporate some cellulosic yarns. The upholstered components are trimmed with crimson silk gimp/braid (width 15mm) which has been glued to secure.
