Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Woman spinning in a Farmyard Setting, in the manner of Francis Wheatley RA (London 1747 – London 1801). 1780-1790.The woman, full-length, wears a cap and is dressed in blue and white. She sits by the side of the road behind a spinning wheel, with a dog beside her on the right. There are buildings either side and the road stretches into the distance with trees, a cottage and a cloudy sky. (Canvas damaged). Wheatley developed the nostalgia, then current, for the simplicity of cottage life. This painting shows signs of damage, probably due to bad restoration.
