Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Coach Scene on a Mountain Road, by Charles Cooper Henderson (Chertsey 1803 – Lower Halliford 1877), signed with a monogram. The coach drawn by three horses is driving along a road having just come through a tunnel. There is a wall on the side of the road to the right and a hilly landscape beyond. A wayside shrine to the left. Distant horizon on the right with cloudy sky.
Provenance
Acquired with Calke Abbey's contents, with the aid of a grant provided by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government and transferred in lieu of tax on the estate of Charles Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1917 - 1981) to the National Trust with the house that was given by Henry Jenney Harpur-Crewe (1921- 1991), in 1984
