Summary
Oil painting on panel, Hounds putting up a Swan by Abraham Hondius (Rotterdam c.1625 – London 1691). The swan flies up above the hounds, which are in a landscape. Hondius emigrated from Holland to England by 1674, where he specialised in 'beasts and hunting pieces'.
Provenance
Calke Abbey was given to the National Trust by Henry Harpur Crewe (1921-1991) and the contents, including this painting, were acquired with the aid of a grant from the National Heritage Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government, in 1984.
