Summary
Oil painting on panel, A Dutch Windmill by Cornelis Julius van Wickevoort Crommelin (1868 - 1910), circa 1909 - previously (!) C. Wictawoort (mis reading of unrecorded signature?). The windmill is set by the side of a stream, a hut building to the left. An inscription on the back reads 'R.F.H. Crewe, 1909, from Amsterdam'.
Provenance
From inscription on back appears to have been acquired in 1909 in Amsterdam by Richard Fynderne Harpur Crewe (1880-1921); Calke Abbey was given to the National Trust by Henry Harpur Crewe (1921-1991) and the contents, including this painting, were acquired with the aid of a grant from the National Heritage Fund, thanks to a special allocation of money from the Government, in 1984
