Summary
Bronze portrait medallion of Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm (1834-1890), 1875. Portrait of Carlyle in relief, facing to the left. Probably a stage in the process of creating the Edinburgh Medal, the medal designed by Boehm for Carlyle's eightieth birthday celebrations. Mounted on a board covered with red velvet fabric and held in place with four metal pins.
