Portrait in plaster of Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm (1834 -1890), c.1875. Portrait of Carlyle, facing to the left. This portrait of Carlyle corresponds to the portrait taken by Boehm for Carlyle's 80th birthday commemorative medal, see NT 263870. This was possibly a working study for the medal. The plaster is painted and has a hanging loop attached at the top.
