Summary
White plaster medallion of Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm (1834-1890), c.1875. Plaster cast after the medal by Boehm, presented to Carlyle on his 80th birthday (see NT 263870). Carlyle's head in profile facing left, 'THOMAS CARLYLE' inscribed around perimeter, signed 'BOEHM' on truncation. Set in a round ebonsised and turned wooden frame with glass.
