Summary
Bronze statuette of Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm (1834-1890). Carlyle is seated on a chair, with his hands crossed in his lap and his left leg crossed over his right leg. Bronze cast of the first version of Boehm's seated statuette of Carlyle in which he wears a shirt, waistcoat, jacket, trousers and button shoes, he looks to his left. Inscribed on reverse on the back of the chair: 'Thomas Carlyle/ modelled from life/ by Boehm 1874/ May'.
