Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, three-quarter-length portrait of Lady Rachel Cavendish, Lady Morgan (1697 - 1780), as a Shepherdess in pink by Charles Jervas (Dublin 1675 – London 1739), inscribed bottom left, 1725 - 30. Lady Rachel, portrayed as a shepherdess, leans on the branch of a tree to her right and holding a crook in her left hand. She wears a pink satin dress with low cut bodice, and her long hair falls over her right shoulder. Her sheep are in the bottom left corner.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
