Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, half-length portrait of a gentleman Called James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth and Buccleuch, KG (1649-1685) wearing a pink coat with jewelled fastenings and a brown cape over his shoulders, by British (English) School, 1690. He faces forwards with a light brown, full bottomed wig. Within a gilded and carved pine frame.
Provenance
Originally part of Tredegar House contents. Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
