Summary
Painting. An oil painting on copper, a seated three-quarter-length portrait of Jane Colchester, Mrs Thomas Morgan (1703 - 1767) in blue and white, by Joseph Highmore (London 1692 – Canterbury 1780), monogrammed and dated, bottom left: (?)1738 c1750. The wife of Thomas Morgan (1702 - 1769), wearing a blue dress with white collar and apron front and white ruffle pieces on elbow length sleeves, neck and underdress and a white lace cap. Within a water-gilded, carved frame, with bead and rail carving on back edge, leaf moulding on the site edge and scroll corners.
Provenance
Brought from Ruperra Castle 16th August 1783. Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
