Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, of a head-and-shoulders portrait of A German Guildsman by Frederick George Swaish (Bristol 1879 - Cologne 1931), c1850. An elderly man with grey beard, facing slightly to the left, wearing black clothes and hat and a white neck-tie. Around his neck, on a long chain, he wears a rectangular gold pendant with turquoise jewels forming a cross shape. Dull red background. Within a black-painted pine frame.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
