Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Prince Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales (1707–1751) by Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792). A half-length posthumous portrait wearing a pink jacket with gold embroidery and an ermine-lined mantle with the Riband and Star of the Garter; powdered wig with black silk ribbon at the neck. It is based on a pastel, commissioned by Princess Augusta, the sitter's widow of 1754 by Liotard in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle.

Given by the artist to George Lee at Hartwell House (Inventory, 1910; Bucks. Record Offiec D/CN/18); Mrs B. Eyre, sold with contents of Hartwell, 26 April 1938, lot 58, bought Leggatt; Sotheby's 19 DEcember 1956, lot 42, bought Agnew's who sold it to C. B. Daponte; bought by Richard Broyd May 1986; became the property of the National Trust, by donation, with all profits henceforward benefiting the houses and the charity, from Historic House Hotels Ltd and all its interests in Hartwell House and the other two Historic House Hotels, Bodysgallen Hall and Midddlethorpe Hall, in September 2008
