Summary
Square piano, Christopher Ganer, England, late 18th century. A square piano inscribed on the fascia Christopher Ganer Musical Instrument Maker / No. 47 Broad Street, Golden Square. The case of mahogany, crossbanded and inlaid with contrasting timbers, resting on a ‘French frame’ stand with music shelf. Compass FF – f3. Fitted with Zumpe’s action (‘English single action’), and two handstops for dampers and harp (‘buff’) stop.
Provenance
Probably the piano acquired by George Henry Benton Fletcher (1866-1944) on 22 Jan 1943 for £3 15s 0. Transferred to the National Trust in 1944.
