Summary
[Destroyed in the fire of 2015] Oil painting on canvas, General William James Loftus (1822-1887), British School, 19th century. Inscribed on back: ‘General William James Loftus b 1822 d 29.3.1887. 38th foot C.B. Son of Lt. Gen. W.F.B. Loftus and of Margaret H Langrishe.’ He is the brother of William Hillier’s mother Mary, and the son of the subject of 1441536. A head-and-shoulders portrait, in old age, wearing red sash over left shoulder and Crimea Medal (1854), Turkish Crimea Medal (1855?), Indian Mutiny Medal (1857?), KCB Medal. Gilt frame.
