Summary
[Destroyed in the fire of 2015] Oil painting on canvas, Thomas Pelham, 1st Baron Pelham of Laughton (c.1653-1711/12), British (English) School, 17th century. A three-quarter-length portrait of a man, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, seated, his left hand on his hip, in a dark brown long wig, wearing a brown cloak and white lace cravat. Architectural background to the right, distant horizon with trees and pink sky to the left. He was created Lord Pelham in 1706.
Provenance
Purchased by the Ministry of Public Building and Works in 1963 from the 6th Earl, Transferred to the National Trust in 1977.
