Summary
[Destroyed in the fire of 2015] Oil painting on canvas, Arthur Onslow (1691–1768), Speaker of the House of Commons, British (English) School, circa 1728. A three-quarter-length portrait, standing slightly left gazing at the spectator, his left hand on his hip, a roll of paper in his right hand; on a table at the left, the speaker's mace. Painting originally thought to be of Sir Henry Tulse, re-identified in 1995 as an early portrait of Speaker, Arthur Onslow 1691-1768. Robes and mace indicate his post of the Great Speaker which he held from 1728 to 1761.)

Marked in Lady Iveagh’s 1966 Inventory, p11; Accepted by the Treasury in lieu of Estate Duty on the death of Lady Iveagh in 1968 and transferred to the National Trust (1968 Schedule B)
