Summary
[Destroyed in the fire of 2015] Oil painting on canvas, Thomas, 2nd Earl Onslow (1754-1827), British (English) School, inscribed (on reverse): Viscount Cranley 1813. Half-length portrait of a mature man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, grey/powdered hair with side whiskers, dark high-buttoned coat, white stock. Dark background. He succeeded his father in 1814 and was a friend of George IV who often stayed at Clandon. He is best known for his carriage driving.
