Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Gentleman in Armour, called 'Mr Clutton', British (English) School, circa 1670-1685. A three-quarter-length portrait of a man turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, standing, wearing armour, his left hand on his sword, right hand resting on his helm in front of him. He has a long dark brown wig, and a lace cravat. In the background to left of sitter, is a battlescene, beneath a stormy sky.
Provenance
Pensax Court, Worcs. Descended with 15 other portraits to Prof. T.H.Clutton-Brock, who lent them to his cousin Alan Clutton-Brock at Chastleton. Purchased by NHMF 1991. Probably no.12 on 'Clutton portraits' list.
