Caption
This picture is the pendant to that depicting ‘Old London Bridge’, also at Felbrigg. In 1753 William II Windham commissioned frames for both pictures. Scott painted this scene at least eight times; the first version was painted in 1746. The dome of St Paul’s, and the Monument appear in the background left. The prominent vessel in the foreground is a Danish timber vessel known as a ‘cat bark.’
Summary
Oil painting on canvas, The Thames by the Tower of London by Samuel Scott (London 1703 – Bath 1772), the three pairs of 'S' braces on the chimney at the right may be a concealed signature. View from the Thames opposite the Tower. In the foreground are ships at anchor and some small boats. The dome of St Paul's Cathedral and the Monument appear in the background at left. Giltwood frame.

Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
