Summary
Oil painting on canvas (oval), William Gibbs (Tyntesfield 1846 -1869), British (English) School, circa 1871. A half-length portrait in a dark coat. The frame is painted gold with an outer edge representing a twisted rope with a beaded inner ring. Written on the back the name 'William' in pencil. There are three small labels with the following information 'MITCHELL / MEGMTMR / 88404, 871096, and RH / SL / 871096.

Purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the NHMF, Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002
