Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Mary Courtenay, Mrs William Paston (d.1747), British (English) School, previously catalogued as attributed to William Hoare of Bath, RA (Eye 1707 – Bath 1792) and previously catalogued as manner of Thomas Hudson. Inscribed: MARY DAUGHTER OF JOHN COURTNEY ESQr OF MOLLAND/ COM. DEVON WIFE TO WILLIAM PASTON ESQr DIED 1747. A painted oval half-length portrait of Mary Courtenay, whose daughter married George Throckmorton thus bringing Molland into the Throckmorton family, turned slightly to the right head turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, brown hair drawn tightly back, pearl necklet and drop-pearl earrings, wearing a blue satin dress decorated with pearls and trimmed with gold lace at the neckline and wearing a pearl necklace.

Purchased by National Trust in 2006 through private treaty sale.
