Summary
Hat - Made from straw plait 0.5cm wide and handstitched through overlapping plait in a spiral from the crown centre. The brim is faced with turquoise blue ribbed silk with a separate head and side lining. It is wired at the edge of the brim. It is trimmed with a twisted blue velvet ribbon and ribbed silk ribbon. There is a frill over the brim of black machine lace and cream silk lace. There is one blue ostrich feather over the crown and a blue ribbon bow and streamer with a wide streamer of black lace attached. Cf. Nancy Bradfield 'Costume in Detail' pg.204(female)
