Summary
Cloak - Woman's cloak/cape dating from 1830's. Fabric - Clove brown silk taffeta. Lining - Brown glazed cotton. Interlined loosely woven woollen fabric throughout. Cut - Full length. Cut straight and pleated into round yoke. Pleats held in place across back waist with velvet band. Arm slits in side seams with scalloped velvet flaps. Wide flat collar extending just beyond shoulders. Trimmings - Collar edged with wide band of dark brown silk velvet. Velvet piping round hem. Fastenings - Brown linen tape ties from inside centre-back at waist. 6 pairs brown silk ribbon ties centre-front. 1 pair at neck edge of collar. Alterations - Collar possibly seperate at one time, it has its own fastening ties. Cross reference Nancy Bradfield 'Costume in Detail' p159-160 - H. (female)
