Summary
Dress - 1825-1830 cotton dress. Fabric - Cotton, block printed with sprays of multi-coloured flowers on black ground. Lining - Bodice andd sleeves lined with brown cotton. Cut - Natural waist. Bodice front in 2 bias-cut sections seamed centre-front. Darts from bust sloping inwards to centre-front. Bands of same fabric gathered at shoulder and waist, sloping across bodice, crossing just above waist. The left hand band is only pinned at waist. Centre-back opening. The top part of bodice back is gathered at centre-back and shoulder to follow decoration of the front. Waistband inset. Gigot sleeves- very long- possibly tied when worn. Cuff decorated with chevrons of pleated and piped self-fabric. Skirt cut in three sections with straight seams at sides and centre back. joined to waistband with 2 areas of bodice pleating either side of centre-front (following the line of bodice decoration) and tight pleating at back. Deep flounce at hem piped on. Some seams on bodice and cuff piped. Thicker piping at top and hem of flounce. Fastenings - 10 flattened brass hooks centre-back, with matching eyes at waist only, the rest handworked. 3 brass hooks and worked eyes on each cuff. (Cross Ref.
