Summary
Dress - An early 19th century (1800-1810) white muslin dress with embroidered spots. Selvedge of fabric woven with heavy white and pink cotton yarn striped with metal thread (visible at bottom of bodice). Lining - Bodice lining and undersleeves of white cotton. Cut - High waistline, bib front. Lining of bodice extends in front to overlapping underpieces with deep, curved neckline. Front (attached to skirt) gives high, straight neckline. Bcak neckline low. Front sections extend to curved seams at back. Cunnington in 'Handbook of English Costume' p355 calls this a 'High Stomacher Front'. Long narrow sleeves set well in at back, gathered at head; short undersleeves. Skirt with long slit to eitehr side of bib front. Slightly eased onto tape at front. Deep pleats at side, box pleated at back. narrow sash of self-fabric attached at back waist. Trimmings - Insertion of drawn thread and embroidered spots matching dress. Decorates front of bodice across neck in 3 'v'shapes down the bodice - also at bottom of sleeve. Fastenings - Under bodice pins across front. Skirt has tape ties at waist.
