Summary
Dress petticoat - Made of parchment silk satin 457 mm (18 in) wide. Remains of metal thread in selvedge. Quilted in matching silk thread. Lined with stone coloured thin coarse woollen cloth. Cut in 7 panels. Uniform, open pleating onto a waistband of wool. Wiastband horseshoe shaped, with a point at the centre-front, self faced. Quilted with large sprays of leaves and bows. A deep border of veined leaves, zigzag scallops and various floral sprays. Fastened with 1 buttonhole and 2 buttons (1 linen, 1 bone) centre back. New camlet waistband and open pleating around 1850-60/ Cf Nancy Bradfield 'Costume in Detail' p26. (dress)
