Caption
This semi-circular painting, or lunette, is after the original painting in the National Gallery, London. The scene shows a battle scene featuring knights on horseback. It shows Niccolò da Mauruzi da Tolentino on his white charger, the leader of the victorious Florentine forces, who is identifiable by the motif of 'Knot of Solomon' on his banner. It comprises of three wooden panels held together with iron cross grain strips and is in a dark wood frame. On the back is written 'arch above seat'. During Charles Paget Wade's time, this was located in his garden at Snowshill under Nychthemeron.

Crests on both bottom corners. It comprises of three wooden panels held together with iron cross grain strips and is in a dark wood frame. On back is written 'arch above seat'. During Charles Paget Wade's time, this was located in the Garden under Nychthemeron see b/w photographs of it in situ (cf. Associations). Charles Wade refers to this item in his notebook Haphazard Notes Volume 2 on page 114, A Painted PANEL filling the arch recess below the garden clock, based on Ucello (sic –Uccello), National Gallery shows THE BATTLE OF EGIDEO. The Florentines against the Sienese – the leader of the Sienese was probably ANTONIO PETRUCCI – his Arms, “Tranche emanche d’or – sur az: un chef d’or, charge d’une Aigle de sa. On the Florentine side were RONALDO DEGLI ALBIZZI. Arms, De sa: a deux Annulets consentriques d’or and NERI CAPONI. Arms – Tranche de sa: sur args = per bend. Arms of FLORENCE. i Ancient – Argent – a fleurdelis gu: ii Modern – Argia fleur de lis – flowered gu: Arms of SIENNA – Party per fess – arg: and sa: i Arms of TUSCANY – Or five Torteaux 2.2.1 in chief a Hurt (Blue Rounded) charged with 3 fleur de lis of the field. ii Another form . Or. 5 Lozenges- 2.2.1 gu in chief Another, of Azure charged with 3 fleur de lis of the field. See over page.
