Caption
Christ’s dead body is being carried to the tomb in a carved-out rock. Joseph of Arimathaea supports Christ, wrapped in linen, at the head of the sheet, with Mary Magdalene and Nicodemus, who has brought myrrh for anointing and preserving the body, at his feet. The Virgin, John the Evangelist, in red, Mary, mother of James, and Mary Salome, the midwife at Christ’s birth, are also present.
