Watercolour on paper, Heathland Landscape - 'Gibbet Hill', Hindhead by Walter Duncan (London 1848 - Richmond 1932). Signed W.Duncan. 'Gibbet Hill', Hindhead. Erected in memory of a barbarous murder committed on an unknown sailor, on September 24th 1786, by Edward Lonegan, Michael Casey and James Marshall, who were all taken the same day, and hung in chains near this place. Owned by Eugenie Fortier whose husband Rev Hugh Tudor was incumbent in nearby Hasslemere Surrey. Bought to A La Ronde by her daughter May Tudor and acquired from Mrs Tudor Perkins in 1991.
