Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Richard Parminter II (1676-1761) of Broadgate, British (English) School, circa 1715-25. An oval painted, half-length portrait of Richard Parminter, Jane Parminter's paternal grandfather (and Mary Parminter's Great Grandfather), as a young man. He was the son of Richard Parminter I who married Jane Rowles in 1675 who died a year later in childbirth. Richard Parminter I married Jane Lavington (1685 - 1761) in 1708. He is viewed from the side, facing right, but looking out at the spectator. He wears a mid-length grey wig and a brown velvet coat with a waistcoat which is unbuttoned across the chest to reveal a white chemise and lace cravat. The sitter is set against a dark-brown background. They had eight children, one of whom was John Parminter whose daughter Jane Parminter (1750 - 1811), was the builder of A la Ronde. He was christened in Barnstaple on 30th August 1676. He became Recorder of Tiverton in 1748. His eldest son Richard Parminter III (1710 - 1772) was the grandfather of Mary Parminter and his second son was John (b.1712) who was the father of Jane Parminter.
