Summary
Oil painting on canvas, King James I (James VI of Scotland) (1566–1625), after Paulus van Somer the elder (Antwerp 1576 – London 1621). Full-length portrait, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, in grey spotted doublet and breeches, lace ruff and garter, his right hand clasping a blue ribbon suspended round his neck with order, the crown on a table at his side. The original painting is in the Royal Collection.
