Oil painting on canvas, Chief Baron Matthew Lant, Baron of the Exchequer (1664 - 1741), school of Sir Godfrey Kneller (Lübeck 1646/9 - London 1723), circa 1726. A three-quarter-length portrait of a man, named Lord Chief Baron of the Court of Exchequer in Scotland on 29 Mar 1726, seated, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, his left arm resting on a stone ledge, his right hand on his hip, in a powdered wig, wearing a brown coat and grey cloak draped over his knees, white shirt and white stock, wearing a wig, seated. Building to the left, landscape to the right with trees and cloudy sky.
